HC asks for wealth report of MP Bodi
The High Court yesterday sought the wealth statement submitted by ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
During a hearing on a bail petition filed by Bodi, the HC bench of Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury asked ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan to produce his wealth statement before it on Sunday.
The anti-graft body filed a case with Ramna Police Station on August 21 accusing the lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 constituency of amassing wealth illegally and concealing information in his wealth statement.
According to the case statement, Bodi informed ACC on March 20 that he along with his wife and children owned movable and immovable properties worth Tk 5.20 crore. But his income tax return showed that they possessed properties worth Tk 16.06 crore till June 30 last year.
Six years back his yearly income was only Tk 2 lakh that rose to Tk 15 crore last year, as per his wealth statements submitted to the Election Commission before the 2008 and January 5 national elections.
He recently filed a petition with the HC, seeking bail in the corruption case, as a Dhaka court on October 16 rejected another bail prayer in the same case.
Abdul Matin Khasru, who argued for Bodi, told the court that his client was not involved in any corruption.
