Govt should implement CHT peace accord fully

Says lawmaker and PCJSS top leader Ushatan

Lawmaker and vice-president of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) Ushatan Talukdar yesterday said the government should come forward to implement the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord fully.
He hoped that the government will realise the matter to execute the accord fully.
The lawmaker, who was elected as an independent candidate from Rangamati district, was addressing a reception hosted for him by a section of eminent citizens in the capital's Liberation War Museum.
Recalling the contribution of PCJSS founder Manabendra Narayan Larma, Ushatan vowed to continue his works to establish rights of the hilly people.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said it was frustrating that the accord was not fully implemented during the previous tenure of Awami League. He also hoped that the accord will be implemented fully during this tenure.
Columnist Syed Abul Maksud stressed the need for engaging more leaders from the hilly people in mainstream politics to create opportunities for them to contribute in nation building.
Politician Pankaj Bhattacharya, Bangladesh Adivasi Forum General Secretary Sanjeeb Drong, former Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain, advocate Rana Dasgupta and development activist Khushi Kabir, among others, spoke.
