Friends raise fund to send Bangladeshi's remains back home
According to his friends 27-year-old Rafiqul Islam came to Regina in Canada from Bangladesh three years ago for a better life.
But last week on his way to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha he was struck and killed in hit-and-run, reports CBC News in Canada.
Now, his friends are trying to raise money to send his remains back to home his family.
“We really want to help his family,” his friend Mohammad Hasan told CBC News on Friday. “His mother right now is crying 24/7. She says ‘I don’t want anything, I don’t want money; I just want my son back.’”
Mohammad said Rafiqul was the sole provider for his family and would send money to Bangladesh to his parents and younger brother and sister. Here, he was known to always help his friends.
Ruhul Amin used to live with Rafiqul. They have been friends since they went to school in Bangladesh.
He said Rafiqul was about to go back to his home country for a visit at the end of the month.
Amin and Hasan are hoping to raise $15,000 to $20,000.
They said they have been overwhelmed with support from the local Islamic community.
Police are still looking for a dark coloured Ford Escape in connection with the hit-and-run.
