Four bodies recovered
Police yesterday recovered four bodies from Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga and Pangsha upazila in Rajbari.
Of the bodies, one was recovered from Damurhuda while three others, including bullet-riddled bodies of two Awami League men of Kushtia's Khoksa upazila, were from Pangsha.
Police said all the four were abducted and killed by members of an outlawed party. They, however, could not say what might be the reason behind any of the killings.
Locals said criminals might have abducted the four from other districts and took them to Pangsha and Damurhuda for killing.
Besides, a Hindu youth has also been abducted from Khoksa.
Meanwhile, unidentified assailants shot dead a youth and injured another in Munshiganj yesterday.
Limon Roy, assistant superintendent of police in Kushtia, said joint secretary of Khoksa upazila AL KM Mohabbat Hossain Dulal, 55, and AL activist Firoz Mahmud Kamal, 45, were kidnapped on Monday night.
They were abducted from Shomospur Bazar in Khoksa while returning home at Shomospur village.
Locals found their bullet-hit bodies in a drain at Machpara village in Pangsha around 6:30am yesterday and informed police, the ASP added.
Khoksa AL sources said Mohabbat had a conflict with Khoksa upazila Chairman Sadar Uddin Khan, also a central AL leader.
However, Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, superintendent of Kushtia police, denied any political connection with the murder.
“We are investigating the incident of the killing,” Mofiz added.
Pangsha police recovered another body of an unidentified man from Bongram village in the upazila yesterday.
Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station, said the man was strangled.
Criminals abducted Hindu youth Monojit Mondol, 28, from Machuaghata in Khoksa on Sunday night.
Anukul Mondol, a member of Betbaria Union Parishad of the upazila, said a group of seven or eight masked armed men entered his house around 10:30pm and picked up Monojit when they were watching TV.
Contacted, Ali Newaz, officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station, however, said no complaint was lodged with the police station in this regard.
Damurhuda police in Chuadanga recovered a bullet-hit body of a youth from a pond of Boalmari village in the upazila.
His identity could not be known.
Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Police Station, said locals found the body in the morning and informed police.
