For the warmth of music
With the cold wave sending chills down the spines of even residents of Dhaka in the safety of their homes, one can only imagine the excruciating cold that those in the Northern districts of Bangladesh, and even the homeless in the cities – have to endure. Project Kombol, an initiative that works to reach warm clothes and blankets to people in remote parts of Bangladesh, have initiated an innovative project this year: a charity concert featuring some of the biggest bands of the country, where the entry ticket is a blanket.
The lineup of the concert, to be held at the Kalabagan Krira Chakra field tomorrow, has an excellent mix of current youth favourites, and classic bands from the nineties and on. Aurthohin, Bappa & Friends, Chirkutt, Dharok, Different Touch, Dreek, Habib, KHC and Friends, Maqsood O Dhaka, Obscure, Shunno, Tahsan and Yaatri will all perform at the event.
For those hard pressed to go to the market and buy a blanket, Project Kombol has arranged for a special 'Kombol Pass', which can be picked up from outlets of Cream & Fudge Factory (Dhanmondi, Banani and Jamuna Future Park), Café Combo (Mirpur-10) and George's Café (Uttara) for 250 taka, which is the standard price of a blanket, and a blanket will be added for every pass. The passes will also be sold at the concert gate for attendees' convenience. A seating arrangement of a thousand people will also be arranged, for children and women attending the event, encouraging people to bring their families along.
The target of the concert is to raise awareness among people about the activities of Project Kombol that spans 32 districts. Corporate entities, NGOs, voluntary organizations and educational institutes support the initiative.
A donation booth will be kept at the venue to raise funds for distribution and other costs. Those who cannot attend the event may donate via projectkombol.com/donate.
