Fight against ISIS is like World Wars
British soldiers in Afghanistan have earned "immortality" but the battle against Islamic extremism will last for a "generation" and be comparable to the two World Wars and fight against communism, British Prime Minister David Cameron has said.
In a rousing address to around 250 soldiers during a visit to Afghanistan, Cameron warned that the battle against Islamic extremists will go on around the world in new theatres.
The PM said that British troops will face further engagements around the world as they fight the "disease" of Islamic terrorism, including the battle against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
Speaking at Camp Bastion, he said: "If our great grandfathers were fighting against Prussian domination of Europe; if our grand fathers were fighting fascism; if our fathers were fighting the cold war against communism; I'm afraid to say, this struggle, against Islamist extremist terrorism, this is the struggle of our generation.
"It's not about involving ourselves in countries far away about which we know nothing. It's about protecting ourselves on our own streets, in our own homes, in our own towns."
