Downpour ringing monsoon bells (video)
A downpour this morning brought respite to life in Dhaka from the searing heat that has been prevailing for the last few days.
It is only three days away from Ashar, the Bengali month that starts monsoon, and the Met office has said rain might continue for a few days.
Operation at Sadarghat launch terminal was forced into suspension from 9:30am for bad weather, an official of Bangladesh Inland Water and Transport Authority (BIWTA) said.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) recorded 59 millimeters of rain until 10:00am, an on-duty official told The Daily Star Online.
The downpour, accompanied by thunderbolts, disrupted public life in Dhaka. Many were seen stranded on streets. Public vehicles were scarce and many roads were seen inundated in water.
The rain might continue for the next two to three days, the met official said.
