The Mughals didn’t come here to loot: Naseeruddin Shah
Noted Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah is all set to appear before fans in the upcoming new web-series "Taj: Divided by Blood". The "Krrish" famed antagonist will be diving into the history of the Mughals in this historical series, portraying the role of emperor Akbar.
In a recent interview, the actor opened up about his views of the Mughal history. He shared that people unnecessarily 'vilify' the Mughals as they did not come to the Indian subcontinent to loot but to make it their home.
The actor mentioned in the interview, "It amuses me because it is so utterly ridiculous. I mean, people can't tell the difference between Akbar and a murderous invader like Nader Shah or Babar's great-grandfather Taimur. These were people who came here to loot. The Mughals didn't come here to loot. They came here to make this their home and that's what they did. Who can deny their contribution?"
"If everything they did was horrible, then knock down the Taj Mahal, knock down the Red Fort, knock down Qutub Minar. Why do we consider the Red Fort sacred, it was built by a Mughal. We need not glorify them, but there is no need to 'vilify' them either," he added.
"Taj: Divided by Blood" also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Sandhya Mridul, Rahul Bose, and Sahil Sethi, among others.
Naseeruddin Shah last appeared in Aasmaan Bhardwaj's film, "Kuttey" released last January 13. Meanwhile, he will next appear in "Taj: Divided by Blood" expected to be released on March 3.
