Eminent citizens to speak before media on dialogue move tomorrow
A group of eminent citizens will speak before the media about their latest initiative for a political dialogue to end the country’s prevailing crisis.
Nagorik Samaj, a platform of civil society members, on Monday sent three letters to the president, prime minister and BNP chairperson, requesting them to take initiatives for holding a national dialogue to resolve the stalemate.
Former chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda, who signed the letters on behalf of the platform, will speak at the press conference beginning at 11:00am at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
Former caretaker advisers M Hafizuddin Khan, Dr Akbar Ali Khan and CM Shafi Shami, eminent jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik, columnist Syed Abul Maksud as well as Sujan Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder will also talk on the occasion.
“The security of the citizens is terribly hampered due to the ongoing violence all over the country. At the same time, the current political crisis has created an uncertainty,” reads a press release issued this evening by a group of concerned citizens.
“Many citizens are worried in this situation. We are also worried.”
The letters were sent following a views-exchange meeting of people from different professions at the Engineers' Institute on February 7.
Nagorik Samaj under the banner of Jatiya Oikya Prokriya (national unity process) had organised the meeting where distinguished personalities expressed the need for taking initiatives for holding a national dialogue to come out of the ongoing crisis.
Eminent jurist and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain, former CEC ATM Shamsul Huda, former caretaker government advisers -- Dr Akbar Ali Khan, CM Shafi Sami, Rasheda K Chowdhury, former Bangladesh Bank governor Salehuddin Ahmed, former police chief Nurul Huda, advocate Shahdeen Malik and CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
