Private television channels Ekattor and ATN Bangla have been respectively awarded as the best news and entertainment channels for 2013 by Bangladesh Cable Television Viewers Forum (BCTVF).
The forum yesterday handed over the awards to the channel authorities at a programme in Dhaka Reporters Unity's Sagor-Runi auditorium.
Channel Ekkator's “ekattor journal” and ATN Bangla's “Amra Korbo Joy” were also awarded in the categories of the best talk shows and children's programmes respectively.
The BCTVF also awarded 13 television journalists and personalities for their contributions to the respective fields.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, addressing as the chief guest, said the government would establish a national broadcasting commission to implement guidelines of the National Broadcasting Policy-2014 which oversees interests of the public and the authorities of electronic media.
The draft of the National Broadcasting Policy would be placed before the cabinet soon, he mentioned.
Inu further said the government will not restrict anyone to telecast their news and programmes, which are important for the sake of democracy, rule of law and good governance.
But the electronic media cannot act as the source of spreading lies to provoke people, he added.
Arfanul Hoque Nahid, BCTVF president, also spoke.
