A welcome decision
It is heartening to hear that England's cricket team will proceed with their much anticipated tour of Bangladesh, as planned. We would like to thank the England and Wales Cricket Board for refusing to be intimidated and in making this correct decision, keeping faith in the ability of the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure that all the necessary security measures will, indeed, be taken.
Calling off the tour would only have achieved a victory for the extremists, especially in instilling fear and creating further divisions. And for that reason, people within the cricketing world too were against the cancellation of the tour. Thus, the decision to go ahead with the tour amounts to a defeat of the extremists' design and shows courage on the part of England's cricket team and its administrative board for which they must be congratulated.
The recently concluded UEFA European Championship in France is a perfect example of that, as France too, had experienced the tragedy of extremism prior to its kick-off. But by going forward with the competition, France equally showed that courage and refused to wilt.
Thus, England's decision to follow through with their tour is a very positive step, which we heartily welcome. And we would like to assure them that Bangladesh will spare no efforts in taking the necessary security measures to make it a success. We must not let extremism and the fear of extremism get the better of us.
