Defiant BCL
FIRST they arrogated to themselves the role of judge and jury by holding a probe and justifying their use of firearms on the university campus on the pretext of self defense on 2 February 2014, and now the Rajshai University BCL cadres are defying the orders of the authorities banning procession, rallies, use of megaphones and all types of political activities in the campus.
The incident in RU on 2 February, where the BCL cadres in open disregard for law attacked other students protesting fee hike, is fairly representative of the cadre's behaviour in some other universities of the country. And we are constrained to say that it is because of the indulgence they have been given by the party as well as the university administration.
We wonder if the RU authorities have inquired whether the weapons seen in the hands of the BCL leaders on 2 February were valid and licensed, and we would like to know whether students are allowed to retain firearms in university dorms. In the latest incident the VC expressed ignorance of any procession. Should he not hone his information tentacles more and be able to enforce the ban he imposes?
Very few of these cadres have been made to face the law, instead their right to so-called self defence has been defended even by some party leaders. It would do a lot of good to the general ambience of the universities if errant student cadres of the ruling party were disciplined instead of being shielded.
