Ctg division finale held
The Chittagong division finale of science competition “IGNITE” was held at Ispahani Public School and College in the city yesterday.
Around 400 secondary school-level students of 24 schools of the division participated at the programme. Guardians and teachers made up the audience.
The students participated in three categories: Discover Science, for students of class VI to VIII; Imagine the Future, for class IX and X students; and Idea Flight, for all students.
Arnab Chowdhury of Cantonment English School secured the first prize in Discover Science category; Antu Dutta and Rouhit Armaan of Chittagong Government High School won the first prize in Imagine the Future category; while two teams --Ashraf Mahmud and Ibne Nur Soumik of Bangladesh Navy School and College, and Farhana Ahmed, Sanzida Sultana and Sharah Tonima of Kapashgola City Corporation High School-- jointly became first in Idea Flight category.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, managing editor at The Daily Star; Baqui Mohammad Billah, general manger and head of Chittagong region of Grameenphone; Prof Sajal Banik of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology's mechanical engineering department; and Mahbubul Alam, principal of Ispahani Public School and College, among others, addressed the prize distribution ceremony.
IGNITE, a joint initiative of Grameenphone (GP) and The Daily Star, was initiated to inspire students of class VI to X towards science education through projects, competition and activities.
