‘Criminal’ killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’ with Rab
An alleged criminal was killed in a “gunfight” with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla early today, police said.
Rab alleged Soleman Uddin Jisan, 32, son of late Abu Bakar from Laxmipur Sadar upazila, died in the gunfight around 4:00am, our Comilla correspondent reports quoting Anamul Haque, a sub-inspector of Daudkandi Police Station.
Jisan was on his way to Laxmipur when a patrol team of Rab-10 signalled him to stop at Jigatola point of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 1:45am, the SI said.
“He ignored and sped away. Another team of the Rab unit intercepted him at Jingatoli point. Jishan fired two bullets at the lawmen. Rab men were compelled to fire back.”
Jisan came in the line of fire and died on the spot. A pistol along with a bullet and the motorbike were seized from the spot.
The elite force members claimed to recover a firearm and bullets from Jisan, who was also a former library affairs secretary of district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, superintendent of Laxmipur police, said.
Jisan, a wanted top criminal, was accused in at least 50 cases for killing, abduction, extortion and looting charges in different police stations of Laxmipur and Noakhali, Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandarganj Police Station told the correspondent.
A case was under process to be lodged with the Daudkandi Police Station until last reported.
