Zannatun loses battle for life
Zannatun, a little girl of Joypurhat town, finally lost her battle for life on Monday night.
She had been suffering from multiple meningiomatosis tumours in her brain since her birth.
Abdul Alim, father of the 7-year-old girl, told this correspondent that Zannatun breathed her last at around 10:30pm on Monday. She had high fever for the last few days and was complaining of stomach pain before she died, the father said.
“We failed to cure her disease,” wailed the father, a resident of Shantinagar area of Joypurhat Municipality and an imam of a local mosque.
Her death triggered a wave of shock in the district town.
Large numbers of people gathered at the house to console the bereaved family members after the news of her death started spreading.
The girl got wide coverage in different national dailies and television channels after her parents appealed to the wealthy countrymen to bear her treatment expenses, which was too much for them to bear.
Apollo Hospitals of Dhaka came forward to treat the girl free of cost following a report published in this newspaper on March 28 this year. She underwent several operations led by eminent neurosurgeon Dr Amitabha Chanda at the hospital.
She returned to Joypurhat from Dhaka after getting release from the hospital on April 25.
She had been doing well after the treatment at Apollo Hospitals, but she suddenly fell sick with high fever on Friday and her condition deteriorated fast.
