Youth killed in clash

A youth was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Bhaban Shayampara village in Jaldhaka upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Nazrul Islam, 28, son of Abu Mahmud of the village.

Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between two neighbouring families of Moniruddin and Moja Mahmud over a piece of land.

Yesterday morning, a member of Mahmud's family went to collect water from a tubewell near the house of Moniruddin.

At the time, Moniruddin hurled abusive words at the rival family members.

After the incident, the rival groups locked in an altercation, triggering a deadly clash.

Police arrested three peole, including Moniruddin, 60, in connection with the incident.
