Woman tortured over land dispute

A woman was tied to a chair and tortured over a land dispute at Shankarsena village in Sreemangal upazila on Monday evening.

Victim Angura Begum, 45, wife of Salam Mia of the village, is now undergoing treatment at Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex.

She is mother of five children.

Angura's husband Salam said a group of six to seven people, led by Chandan Mia and his son Nazmul Mia, picked up his wife from the road at Shivbari bazar when she was returning home for iftar. Later, they tied her to a chair and tortured her mercilessly.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman and sent her to the hospital. However, the accused managed to flee the scene.

Salam said Chandan forcibly occupied his seven decimals of land and set up a poultry farm there.

Several meetings were held to resolve the issue but in vain.

Chandan was arrested in connection with the incident, said Nazrul Islam, officer in charge of Srimangal Police Station.
