Woman stabbed dead by estranged husband

A woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her first husband in BS Dangi area of Charbhadrasan upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Rikta Begum, 22, wife of Saha Jalal of Khalasi Dangi village in Sadarpur upazila.

Rikta lived at a rented house with her one-and-half year-old daughter in the area. Saha Jalal rented the house for the victim as he has another wife.

Md Yusuf Ali, a medicine trader of Charbhadrasan bazar, said when Rikta was going to her house after buying medicine from the shop, her first husband Alamgir stabbed her and fled the scene.

She later died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Ram Proshad Bhokto, officer-in-charge of Charbhadrasan Police Station, said Rikta married Alamgir of Kushtia six years ago. The couple has a baby girl.

Rikta divorced Alamgir on March 8. She later married Jalal.
