Woman burnt while warming by fire, dies

A housewife, who sustained burn injuries while warming herself near a fire in Phulbari upazila on Tuesday, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday.

The deceased was Chandni Rani, 24, wife of Biplob Roy of Maddhya Gouripara area in the upazila.

Another burnt woman Anjuara Begum, 50, is battling for life at the same hospital, said family members.

Family sources said Chandni along with other villagers set fire to paddy straws and were warming themselves near the fire on Tuesday morning. Accidentally, their saris caught fire and they were burnt badly.

Dousing the fire, villagers rushed the two to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex. As their condition was worsening, they were shifted to Burn Unit of RMCH, where Chandni Rani succumbed to her injuries yesterday morning.
