Woman burnt in mysterious fire dies
A woman died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital today, a day after she was burnt in a mysterious fire near Airport Railway Station in Dhaka.
Police rescued the woman, Shamima Akter Runa, 40, in critical condition from a bush near the railway station around 2:00am on Saturday and admitted her to Dhaka Medical College’s burn unit where she died around 9:30am today.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, said Nur-e-Azam, officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station.
After her admission to the hospital, the woman identified herself as the widow of one Abul Kalam Azad hailed from Kashipur in Fatullah of Narayanganj. She told reporters at the hospital that she was working as a housemaid.
Police went to the address specified by her but could not find anybody there, according to Nur-e-Azam, officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station.
The police have not taken any case in connection with this incident, the OC told The Daily Star adding that they have not found any evidence related to the fire on the spot.
