Vow to fight drug abuse, militancy
Speakers at a discussion yesterday asked the students to be aware about the bad effect of drugs abuse.
About 200 students of Gaibandha Government College vowed to drive out the menace of drug abuse from the society and took oath at the programme, organised by Narcotic and Liquor Control Directorate, Gaibandha unit.
They said drugs are flooding every corner and youths, especially students, are the main victims of drug abuse.
Besides, being victims of such abuse, many meritorious students get derailed from their studies and start an uncertain journey toward darkness.
They also urged the authorities concerned to set up a rehabilitation centre as there is no such organisation in the area to bring back the derailed youths from the curse of drug abuse.
The speakers urged the guardians to monitor the movement of their children and motivate them to stay away from drugs.
Meanwhile, Gaibandha police yesterday arranged an awareness programme against militancy by distributing class routine and calendar inscribed with cell phone numbers of police officials concerned at Government Boys' High School premises.
Gaibandha Superintendent of Police Masruquer Rahman Khaled inaugurated the programme, which will gradually expand to all the secondary schools and madrasas.
Police alone cannot keep the law and order situation perfect unless people extend their cooperation in controlling anti-social activities and militancy, speakers said.
