Villagers guard grave to protect slain farmer's body
Villagers have been guarding the grave of slain farmer Shafiqul Islam from Sunday night for fear that the body may be taken away by the killers.
Shafiqul's wife Shahina Parvin filed a murder case, accusing five people, with the Judicial Magistrate's Court on Sunday. After hearing the case, Judicial Magistrate Afas Uddin ordered Aditmari Police Station to record it as a murder case and take action. But police did not take any action in this regard till yesterday.
The deceased was son of late Roich Uddin of Shalmara village in Bhelabari union under Aditmari upazila. He was killed on July 22 and his body was the found the next day.
Shafiqul's elder brother Fazal Mia said, “We are guarding the grave of my brother every night for fear that the killers may take the body to remove any evidence of murder. Locals are also helping us every night.”
He added that they would guard the grave until the body was exhumed for another postmortem.
