UNO foils pond digging on cropland

Naldanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) foiled pond digging in a cropland of Ramshakarzipur area in the upazila yesterday.

UNO Reza Hasan said Fattah Munshi, son of Momen Uddin of the area, was digging a pond on his 12 bighas of cropland and selling the earth to different brick kilns.

"At the direction of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shaheena Khatun, we told the people not to dig any pond on cropland or sell earth to anybody. But, defying the DC's directive, Fattah Munshi was digging a pond in the village," the UNO, also executive magistrate, said, adding that he fined Fattah Tk 50,000, in default to suffer six months in jail, under the Balumahal and Earth Management Act of 2010.
