UN to grant $1.22b for Bangladesh’s dev projects
The United Nations today signed a framework to provide US$ 1.22 billion funding for development projects in Bangladesh for the year 2017 to 2020 under UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
Economic Relations Division Senior Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Robert Watkins signed the agreement at the NEC auditorium of the Planning Commission today.
The amount for the year 2012 to 2016 was US$ 1.76 billion, which is less than the figure for the current UNDAF fund, Mejbahuddin said at the signing ceremony.
However, the projects that are funded by the UN and greatly contribute to the national development will be taken up and scaled up by the government's own fund, if necessary, Mejbahuddin added.
