Two sisters burnt alive in Mymensingh
Two sisters were burnt alive in a fire at Raghurampur in Phulpur upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The victims are Suma Akhter, 6, and her younger sister Tamanna Akhter, 4, daughters of Muklesur Rahman, a grocery shop owner. Suma was a class one student of a local primary school.
Police and local people said Marufa Akhter, mother of the victims, was sleeping along with her four daughters in her house. Her husband was not at home at that time, police said.
During a storm, which began at around 10:10pm, the house caught fire from a snapped electric wire, said Mazharul Haque, officer-in-charge of Phulpur Police Station.
Though Marufa managed to come out of the house with her eldest and youngest daughters--Lima Akhter, 9, and Tanzina Akhter, 2--Suma and Tamanna were burnt alive on the spot, said the OC.
Local people brought the fire under control, said police.
