Two PSTU teachers dismissed
Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) authorities dismissed two teachers who concealed information while taking a job at the university.
The university formed a probe body in December 2017 to investigate allegations that Prof Sultan Mahmud, chairman of Aquaculture Department under Fisheries faculty and also former registrar of PSTU, and Dr Zahid Parvez Sukhon, assistant professor of Fisheries and Oceanography Department under the same faculty, had hidden information while joining the university, said PSTU Registrar Swadesh Samonto.
Prof Sultan was suspended in January this year while Dr Zahid was suspended in February.
The probe body submitted its report to the authorities in May 2018, saying that the allegations were true, Swadesh said.
The decision to dismiss them was made after review of the probe report by the Board of Regents at a meeting held on Sunday, Swadesh said.
The authorities sent dismissal letters to the permanent addresses and the former work places of the dismissed teachers on Monday, he added.
Prof Sultan joined PSTU in 2012 while Dr Zahid joined in 2012.
Swadesh said Prof Sultan was fisheries officer in Mymensing Sadar upazila and he was suspended from his job for alleged involvement in corruption.
Dr Zahid was also suspended from his job when he was fisheries officer in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur, he added.
