Trial from jail over video calls soon
Jail authorities will soon launch a video conference facility to try militants and top terrorists on court from jail, Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin said today.
Initially, the facility will be launched for militants and top terrorists jailed in Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj and Kashimpur prison, he said at the launching of Prison Week 2017.
Draft of the relevant law in this regard has been prepared and forwarded to the law ministry, he said.
Also, jail authorities will be launching call facility for inmates from inside the prison. A pilot project in this regard has been taken up at Tangail District Jail, which will be started soon.
The authorities have taken up a number of initiatives to train the inmates in various professions including plumbing, masonry and electric wiring so that the prisoners can return to a normal life after being freed from jail.
Also, the inmates will be given salary for their labour inside jail. A proposal in this regard has been forwarded to the government with hopes of being implemented soon.
