Transport workers start 48-hr strike in Moulvibazar
Transport workers enforced a 48-hour strike in Moulvibazar this morning protesting what they said an attack on locals by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members that led to a clash between them in Srimangal upazila on Thursday.
Moulvibazar Transport Workers’ Union started the strike around 6:00am demanding punishment of those responsible for the alleged attack, our district correspondent reports quoting the union President Sanjib Das.
Six people were injured in the clash between the BGB men and locals at Srimangal upazila bazar in Moulvibazar Thursday evening.
The transport workers will continue the strike further if the attackers are not arrested in 48 hours, Sanjib said.
Meanwhile, Srimangal traders and transport workers enforced a non-stop strike in the upazila yesterday demanding the same, said Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, president of Srimangal Businessmen Association.
A probe committee has been formed by the local administration yesterday to investigate the incident.
