Tortured woman lands in hospital

A woman, brutally tortured allegedly by her dowry-greedy husband, groans in pain at Amtali Upazila Health Complex in Barguna.

The victim, Farida Begum, 34, wife of Khokon Musulli of Horidrabaria village in Amtali upazila, is mother of two children.

Jobless Khokon often tortured Farida for Tk 2 lakh dowry since their marriage in 2001. Khokon married another woman in 2011 and his torture on Farida increased, said family members.

“Khokon is jobless and a drug addict. On Friday, he beat me inhumanly and tried to damage my right eye. Hearing screams, locals rescued me,” said Farida in tears.

Khokon went into hiding.
