Tk 1.01 lakh looted from Birganj municipality

Burglars looted Tk 1.01 lakh from an almira in Birganj municipality of the district in the early hours of yesterday.

Acting treasurer of the municipality Md Wazed Ali said they withdrew Tk 1.38 lakh from a local bank on Monday for disbursing payments to the mayor and councillors, adding that Tk 36,000 was paid to four councillors as honorarium while the rest of the money was locked in an almira.

The robbers took the money after cutting the window grill of the treasury room and breaking the almira. The wires of the CCTV cameras in the room were also cut.

Officer-in-Charge of Birganj Police Station Md Akkas Ali said they are investigating the incident after getting a written complaint from the municipality authorities in the afternoon.
