Teesta issue to be resolved soon, Jaitley tells Muhith
Reiterating Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment over Teesta water sharing with Bangladesh, the neighbouring country's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the issue will be resolved very soon.
"The relation between the two countries is very good now. Only the water sharing of Teesta river issue has remained unsettled. Our prime minister (Modi) has said it would also be resolved. Now, I am also saying it will be resolved soon," Arun Jaitley told his Bangladesh counterpart AMA Muhith yesterday.
Muhith quoted Jaitley as saying in a meeting on the sidelines of the Spring Meeting of the World Bank Group – IMF.

"Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent New Delhi visit was a successful and fruitful one," he added saying that, "All the agreements will be implemented very soon."
Officials in the Modi government are working closely with West Bengal officials to find common ground to get Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to agree to the Teesta deal, Jaitley told Muhith.
"Decision will be taken after discussing the issue with the West Bengal government soon," Muhith quoted Jaitly as saying.
India pledges $4.5 billion credit in 2017, Muhith said adding that the total of $7.5 billion Indian credit would play a 'major' role in Bangladesh's development.
He also said that India's latest credit to Bangladesh is more than that the ADB pledges to Bangladesh.
