Teenage girl missing for three weeks

A teenage girl, who went missing from Kakeyatepa village in Mogolhat union under Sadar upazila on May 20, is yet to be rescued.

A general diary was lodged in this connection with Sadar Police Station on May 21 and police are working to rescue her.

However, the parents of the 18-year-old girl and local people said she did not go missing but was abducted. They alleged that a local drug syndicate member was involved in her abduction.

The girl's parents Sayeed Islam and Jahanara Begum live with their three children -- Rezaul Islam, 21, Shyamoli Akhter, 7, and the victim -- in a tin-shed on someone else's land in the village.

“Taking advantage of our poverty the drug syndicate member trapped our daughter into a love affair. They abducted her when we were working in the field and she was alone in the house,” Jahanara said. “We do not know where and how our daughter is,” she said. “We asked the man about our daughter, but he threatened us instead of replying,” she added.

“We are suspecting that our daughter was abducted and trafficked to India as the syndicate man has good links in the border area,” Sayeed said.” “We have informed police about the suspected abductor, but no step has been taken,” he said, appealing to police to bring back his daughter unhurt.

Victim's elder brother Rezaul Islam said the alleged abductor harassed his sister and was warned several times in this regard.

Saher Uddin, 56, a villager, said the victim was seen gossiping with the suspected abductor on the day she went missing. The suspected abductor is known as a culprit in the village, he added.

Local Union Parishad Member Abdur Rahim said the girl was not missing but was abducted, adding that more culprits could be involved in the abduction. “I am trying my level best to help the poor parents to find their daughter,” he added.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahfuz Alam said police are trying to trace out the missing girl and arrest the man.
