Teen saves herself from marriage

A teenage girl of a remote village in Barguna's Amtali upazila saved herself from child marriage on Tuesday night.

She sought help of  Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sarwar Hossain and the latter  foiled the marriage.

The girl is ninth grader Ashamoni, 13, daughter of Monju Gazi of Raogha village, said Sarwar.

UNO office sources said Ashamoni was going to be married with trader Liton, 30, of Barisal.

At the time, the girl went to the UNO's office with the help of her cousin Mahbubur Rahman Nipu and informed him about the matter. The UNO then foiled the marriage after discussing with her parents and relatives.
