Teachers' vehicle vandalised again

Unidentified criminals again vandalised a minibus carrying teachers of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University  yesterday.

Some six criminals damaged the minibus with sticks at Kagmari in the town. Four teachers of the university who were in the vehicle, however, escaped unhurt, said Dr Md Sirajul Islam, proctor of the university.

The incident occurred after the university teachers' association formed a human chain in front of the administrative building demanding arrest of the criminals who vandalised a teacher's car, misbehaved with a teacher and threatened the vice-chancellor (VC) of the university on July 4.

On that day, a group of criminals vandalised a microbus of the university in the same area and misbehaved with Abdullah Al Mamun, a teacher of textile engineering department, who was in the vehicle.

Afterwards, some people told VC Prof Mohammad Alauddin over mobile that they vandalised the car as he did not meet the demand of their bosses.

The callers also threatened to vandalise more vehicles  and create more trouble at the university in future.

The proctor said he filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station against around 15 unidentified criminals in connection with the incident of July 4, but the law enforcers have not been able to arrest any of the culprits so far.

"We suspect that the people who demanded appointment of their men in the university are behind the vandalism. We urged the law enforcers to identify the attackers and the people behind them through investigation," he added.

In a press release signed by Ali Newas Bahar, publicity secretary of the association, the teachers termed the incident as a bid to destroy the academic atmosphere at the institution. They also demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits after  investigation.
