Teachers for fresh medical test
Speakers at a programme yesterday demanded fresh medical check-up on a female primary schoolteacher who was gang-raped in Betagi upazila of Barguna on Thursday.
Meanwhile, police on Monday arrested another accused in the rape case.
Arrestee Md Jewel, 18, is No 3 accused in the case, OC Md Mamun-Or-Rashid of Betagi Police Station said, adding that No 4 accused Mahedi Hasan alias Robiul was arrested on Sunday.
The speakers came up with the demand at a human chain in the upazila. Betagi Upazila Primary Teachers' Association organised the programme with its president Md Salim Ahmed in the chair.
They urged the authorities concerned to conduct fresh medical test on the rape victim. They also demanded immediate arrest of all the accused.
On Monday, Barguna Civil Surgeon Dr Jasim Uddin Hawlader claimed that no signs of rape were found in the medical report of the victim.
However, some injury marks were found on different parts of the victim's body including hands and cheek as culprits attempted to rape her, he said.
Dr Ajmiri Begum of gynaecology department at Barguna General Hospital, however, on Saturday said signs of rape might have been found in the medical test.
Rejecting the medical report, the victim said, “It is impossible. The test result must have been changed.”
On Thursday afternoon, the teacher was chatting with her husband in a classroom after school hours. All of a sudden, some culprits stormed into the institution. They later confined the teacher's husband to a classroom and raped her in another.
