Teacher humiliation: Judicial inquiry team in Narayanganj
A judicial inquiry team from Dhaka has started investigation into the incident of public humiliation of school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta in Narayanganj.
A three-member team led by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hafizur Rahman reached Narayanganj this morning to carry on their two-day investigation, our local correspondent reports quoting court Inspector Sohel Alam.
Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam is accompanying the team members, Inspector Sohel said.
The team will interrogate the school students in connection with the incident. They will continue today’s investigation till 5:00pm.
The probe body went to the district following a High Court order that rejected a probe report conducted by law enforcers.
Police on August 7 submitted the probe report to the HC saying that they have found out the public humiliation of Shyamal Kanti was an “unexpected situation” resulted from a rumour.
Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area, was beaten up by a mob and made to squat holding his earlobes in the presence of local Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Selim Osman.
The victim said the locals were provoked by false allegations that he had made disparaging statements about religion and that some teachers held a grudge against him for not meeting their unfair demands.
A video clip of the incident has gone viral on social media, triggering public outrage and a firestorm of protests on social networking sites.
