Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police (SP) started an exceptional door to door campaign to build awareness among villagers against abuse of drugs and drug smuggling in the bordering villages.

SP SM Rashidul Haque accompanied by other police officials has been conducting the campaign since Tuesday and sharing views with the villagers about the bad impact of drugs abuse.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Mahfuz Alam said villagers have already started raising their voices against drug abuse and are committed to uprooting drug smuggling, consuming, transporting and storing.

Sohrab Miah, 63, of Kulaghat village in Sadar upazila said they were inspired by the SP's speech and it would help them to unite and fight against social menaces like drug abuse.

Asadul Islam, 45, a resident of Chawratari village in Sadar upazila said many engaged in drug smuggling or peddling have already said goodbye to the illegal trade and are doing other honest jobs now.

SP SM Rashidul Haque said without social movements it's not possible to control the abuse of drugs or uproot it from the society.
