Sonali Bank officer jailed for corruption

A court here yesterday sentenced a former bank official to four years imprisonment in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for misappropriating around Tk 7.90 lakh from a depositor's account.

Judge Md Motiur Rahman of the Special Judge's Court in the district, delivered the verdict against Md Jakir Hossain, a former cashier of Sadarpur branch of Sonali Bank, said Fazlul Haque, deputy director of ACC in the district.

“The court also fined the bank official the amount that he embezzled, in default to serve six months more in jail,” Fazlul said.

“Md Jakir Hossan embezzled Tk 7.90 lakh from the account of Rehana Begum, a depositor of Sadarpur branch of Sonali Bank, when he was a cashier of the branch,” he said.

“Subsequently, in 2016, the then district ACC Deputy Assistant Director Enayet Hossain lodged a case with Sadarpur Police Station, accusing Jakir in this connection,” Fazlul added.
