Sandalwood worth Tk 17 lakh seized in Dinajpur
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized sandalwood worth around Tk 17 lakh and arrested a man in this connection under Hakimpur upazila of the district yesterday.
The arrestee is Md Ahad Ali, 35, son of Nasir Uddin of Raghunathpur village in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district.
The border guards, acting on a tip-off, raided a passenger bus in front of Basudevpur camp in Hakimpur upazila at around 1:00pm and arrested Ahad Ali along with the sandalwood, said Hla Moung, commander of Dinajpur BGB sector.
Earlier in the morning, a man was held on charge of entering Indian territory illegally through Hili border in Hakimpur upazila.
Soon after his arrest, Wabaidur Rahman, 40, son of Chand Mia of Ishwardi upazila town in Pabna district, escaped from the BGB custody.
The border guards are raiding different areas to arrest Wabaidur, said BGB sources.
Meanwhile, police arrested a man along with gold ornaments weighing 800 grams at Fotepur bus stand in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah district yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee is Bashar Uddin, son of Mojam Ali of Goalpara village in Jibonnagar upazila of Chuadanga district.
On secret information, a police team raided a human hauler in the area at noon and arrested Bashar along with the gold ornaments.
A case was filed in thisa connection, said Sayed Al-Mamun, officer-in-charge of Moheshpur Police Station.
