Rohingya youth ‘stabbed dead’ by fellow countryman
A Rohingya refugee youth was stabbed to death reportedly by another fellow refugee at Kutupalang refugee camp in Cox's Bazar this afternoon, police said.
The deceased was identified as Momtaz Ahmed, 35, son of Abul Kashem of Rakhine State in Myanmar, Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station, told our Cox’s Bazar staff correspondent.
“Momtaz was indiscriminately stabbed by one Arif Ullah in Madhurchara area of Kutupalang Rohingya refugee camp around 1:30 pm, leaving him critically injured,” the OC said.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to the makeshift medical camp built for Rohingya refugees, he said.
Later, police arrested Arif, who also took shelter in the refugee camp, in connection with the death, the OC said.
“Momtaz reportedly killed Arif’s brother in Guchidong of Rakhine state of Myanmar two years ago and fled to Bangladesh. Since then, Arif followed the trail of Momtaz to avenge his brother’s killer,” the police official further said.
