'Robber' killed in mob beating

An alleged robber was killed in a mob beating at Raitola village in Kasba upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was Selim Mia, 30, son of Abul Hossain alias Hossain Daroga of Shyambari village in the upazila.

Locals said a group of eight to 10 robbers waylaid motorcycle rider Sumon Mia and Siddik Mia in Raitola Bhangti area and tried to loot valuables from them.

Hearing screams, the villagers surrounded the area. Sensing danger, Selim's cohorts managed to flee the scene, but he had to face public wrath.

The mob gave Selim good beating, leaving him dead on the spot, said Officer-in-Charge of Kasba Police Station Md Moniruzzaman.

Informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
