‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’
An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Khoksa upazila of Kushtia early today, police said.
The victim was Motiur Rahman Mintu, 28, from Pangsha of Rajbari, and was said to be a listed robber, our Kushtia correspondent reports.
Mintu and seven to eight accomplices were preparing for robbery at Shimulia bazar area on Kushtia-Rajbari highway, said Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station.
Police rushed there around 3:30am. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened gunfire. Police retaliated with gunfire triggering a gunfight.
Mintu was found lying at the spot. Bullet-hit, he was rushed to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.
Police said a shutter gun, one pistol, and four bullets were recovered from the spot.
Mintu was accused in seven cases including two for murder, four for robberies and one for abduction filed in Rajbari, Kushtia and Jhenidah.
