A mob beat dead an alleged robber in Pathorghata upazila of Barguna on Tuesday.

Md Bellal Hossen, 40, son of Amir Hossen of Dakkhin Kupdhon village under Pathorghata upazila died around 8:00pm on Tuesday at Pathorghata upazila health complex, said Mollah Md Khabir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pathorghat Police Station.

“We rescued Bellal from the angry villagers in the evening and brought him to Pathorghata Upazila Health Complex where Medical Officer Dr Anwar Ullah declared him dead,” he said.

He was brought to the health complex with critical injuries caused by beating, the doctor said.

“Earlier on January 6 night, robbery was committed at three houses of Kalmegha village under the same upazila and we arrested Jasim Uddin, one of the robbers who committed the crime. Jasim in his confessional statement said Bellal was involved in the robbery,” the OC said.

The deceased was accused in at least seven robbery cases filed with the police station, he added.
