A young girls' rights activist from a remote village in Khansama upazila under the district flies to Paris today to attend International Day of the Girl programmes starting tomorrow.
The 10-day programme will end on October 12.
The participant from Khansama, Radha Rani, 21, is going there at the invitation of Plan International France, said Abdul Mannan, programme unit manager of Plan International Bangladesh in Dinajpur.
She is the youngest of the five daughters of Gopal Chandra Sarker and Shanti Rani Sarker of Arazijugir Ghopa village of Khansama upazila, and a second year honours student of Hossainpur College.
Radha will attend several programmes in Paris and visit different educational institutes in France, meet with the mayor of Paris, parliament members, attend discussions and debates and join interviews with television channels in France.
"I want to learn from them about abilities, power and challenges to change the world, alongside sharing my experiences and ideas about protecting the girls' rights," Radha told the reporters before leaving Dinajpur yesterday.
Working as a rights activist in Khansama upazila since 2005, Radha has prevented many underage marriages of girls in the area and participated in awareness programmes to ensure girls' rights to education.
