Qualified for medical study, but worried for finance

A brilliant student's dream for pursuing medical education faces uncertainty due to poverty.

Jahidul Islam, second son of Azizar Rahman and Kurkum Begum of Arulia village under Bogra Sadar upazila, got chance for MBBS study in Patuakhali Medical College this year.

He had obtained GPA-5 in SSC and HSC examination in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Azizar was an inhabitant of Purba Shujatpur village under Sonatola upazila of Bogra but the Jamuna river devoured all their landed property, forcing them to take shelter at Arulia village under Sadar upazila 25 years ago, family sources said.

"I lost my eyesight due to an unknown disease when I was a student of Class VII. Now I am conducting my six-member family through hardship, often depending on others," Azizar said.

Azizar and his wife Kurkum Begum have sought help from generous people for fulfilling their son's dream to be doctor.

Jahidul's schoolteacher Ebadat Hossain said local benevolent people collected Tk 30 thousand for his admission to medical college and other related purposes but he would need financial support for continuation of his study.
