Punish attackers

Teachers and students of Chandpur Technical and Business Management College in Bagatipara upazila demanded arrest and punishment of those who injured the acting principal of the college with a hammer on Saturday.

Speakers at a human chain in front of the college yesterday alleged that supporters of former principal Mokbul Hossain attacked their acting Principal Lutfar Rahman with a hammer.

"We demand immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals," Abul Kalam Azad, a lecturer of the college, said.

On Saturday morning, some unidentified criminals hit Lutfar Rahman on the head with a hammer.

Critically injured Lutfar was first taken to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

The victim's family members said a feud over the principal's post was the reason for the attack.

The injured principal's brother Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Bagatipara Police Station on Saturday night accusing 14 people including the former principal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Abdullah Al Mamun said, adding, they were trying to arrest the criminals.

Last year, Mokbul was discharged from the post of the principal in the face of allegations of corruption and irregularities in the institution, the OC said.
