Protidin editor sued

A Tk 10 crore defamation case has been filed against Naem Nizam, editor of the Bangladesh Pratidin, and its reporter Ruhul Amin Rasel with a Patuakhali court.

Sultan Ahmed Mridha, husband of Lutfunnesa, lawmaker from Patuakhali (reserve seat for women), filed the case on November 30 and Jinnat Jahan Jhunu, first district joint judge, issued summons to the accused after receiving the case, said Mridha's lawyer Obaidul Alam.

The court asked the accused to submit their statement over the matter on January 18, he said.

A news item titled 'MP'r swami bole kotha' (as he is the husband of an MP) was published in the Bangladesh Pratidin on October 30.

District unit AL member Mridha is also former chairman of Patuakhali municipality and Sadar upazila parishad.

“Publishing of the item has tarnished his prestige and image socially and politically and so, we filed the case,” Obaidul said.
