President urges people to get united against terrorism

President Abdul Hamid today urged the people of the country, irrespective of their party and opinion, to get united to stamp out terrorists and their patrons from society.

"The recent brutal killings of foreign nationals at Artisan café in Gulshan and attack on police at Sholakia on Eid-ul-Fitr day not only stunned the whole nation but also made it upset. The people of the country never support such terrorist activities," he said.

Abdul Hamid said this while addressing the Darbar of President Guard Regiment (PGR) at Shahid Captain Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of its 41st founding anniversary.

"Bengalis are a peace loving people. Communal harmony is a unique heritage of Bengali culture. That's why the people of this country would not tolerate such terrorist activities," he told his audience.

The president also urged the people of the country to cooperate with the government and law enforcement agencies to resist such activities.

Hamid said multifaceted terrorist activities as well as militant activities have increased in the country and across the globe. "Terrorism is not a problem for any particular country...it's now a global problem," he said.

The pattern of terrorism and crime is changing across the world with the expansion of science and technology, said the President adding under the circumstances, timely and quality training is needed to ensure the security of VVIPs. "Every member of the PGR must be more skilled with a view to facing any situation instantly with efficiency," he said.

Pointing at the PGR members, the president said, "Keep in mind your any sacrifice while discharging duty, bestowed by the nation and country, will be remembered in the nations' history."

Later, President Abdul Hamid signed the visitor's book and joined a photo session with officials of PGR.

Chief of Army Staff general Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, commander of PGR Brig Gen Jahangir Harun, high military and civil officials were also present on the occasion.
