PM vows to do everything to eliminate militancy
Reiterating her firm vow not to give any room to militancy on the soil of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that she would do whatever necessary to eliminate the evil force.
“There’ll be no place for militancy in the country. I will do whatever necessary and people will resist militancy to make Bangladesh a peaceful country,” Hasina said while addressing a function at the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh in Dhaka this afternoon.
Referring to the ongoing army-led ‘Operation Twilight’ at a militant den in Shibbari of Sylhet, the premier called upon the people who are renting out their houses to be more careful about their tenants and to collect tenants’ information in detail.

“Otherwise, you (people) will fall into trouble like that of the militant den in Sylhet,” Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, said.
Pointing finger at BNP, Jamaat, Hasina said an anti-liberation force is creating trouble in the country when Bangladesh has become a role model of development and when it is now on the highway of development.
She also described the anti-liberation force as ‘parasite’ and blamed them for engaging in hatching plots to create trouble in the country by fueling militancy.
“Our country will turn into a peaceful and beautiful place if we can uproot the parasite,” she said.
“I was in a tense situation as on one side, Bangladesh Cricket team was beating Sri Lanka while on the other hand, an anti-militant drive was on in Sylhet,” Hasina said.
The prime minister criticised BNP for its stance on militancy and said its leaders feel pain in their hearts when the government takes stern action against the terrorists and militant activities.
“We are taking measures to ensure security of people’s lives when BNP is playing its broken record and providing support and shelter to the militant activists to keep them concealed,” she added.
She said her government will work for development of the country and will continue anti-militant drives simultaneously.
Coming down heavily on BNP, as the party did not observe March 25 as genocide day, Hasina said the party does not believe in the country’s Independence.
Hasina said she will build a poverty and hunger free country upholding the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“We will not let our independence to go in vain. We want peace and prosperity of the country,” she said.
The prime minister also called upon all not to debate on the issue of who proclaimed the country’s independence, as the High Court has already resolved the debate through its verdict.
