Padma capsize: Missing BNP leader’s body found
The body of a missing BNP leader was found from Padma river today following Wednesday’s speedboat capsize. A schoolgirl is still missing in the incident.
Locals found the body of Iqbal Shikdar, 45, BNP’s Jajira upazila unit president, floating near Shimulia Ferry Ghat area this afternoon, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Later, police handed over the body to his family members, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Louhajong Police Station.
Meanwhile, schoolgirl Tahmina Akhter, 12, remains missing till the report was filed at 5:40pm today.
During a storm around 3:00pm on Wednesday, a Majhikandi-bound speedboat, carrying 18 passengers, overturned in Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the river in the district’s Louhajong upazila.
Earlier, a 10-year-old boy, Labib Halder, son of Joynal Halder of Shariatpur district succumbed to his injuries in Dhaka after the capsize.
Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore.
